Southside with you movie download12/23/2023 ![]() ![]() Their day of peaks, valleys, challenges, contributions, contention, and compromise culminates with a trip to see Spike Lee's topical "Do the Right Thing" and an ending stop for ice cream. He plans out the day and fills their shared time with stops around Chicago to take in some culture, walk and talk shop, compare anecdotes, push boundaries, share a meal, and reveal pieces of their driven personalities and character-building upbringings that brought them to law. That doesn't stop an occasionally ogling Barack from turning on the charm to win her respect and attention. In true superior-to-subordinate fashion, she insists constantly that this is not a date. Michelle has accepted an invitation from Barack to attend a citizen meeting in the Gardens. ![]() We meet one primper (her) dressing to impress at home and one procrastinator (him) chain-smoking and motoring up late in a rusted-out Datsun. She specialized in trademark cases downtown while Barack put his passion towards stumping for neighborhood issues working as a community organizer in the Altgeld Gardens housing projects on the far south side of Chicago. Barack was a junior associate fresh out of Harvard and Michelle was his senior adviser. Three years before they were married, Michelle Robinson (Tika Sumpter) and Barack Obama (Parker Sawyers) were colleagues at the same Chicago law firm. Southside with You" is a date movie. Later on, it seemed that Denzel Washington might fill that space, with roles like Demetrius Williams in Mississippi Masala in 1991. Over the years, Poitier became the paragon for a black male romantic lead in the movies. The film starred Sidney Poitier and Ruby Dee, and was, in many ways, a showcase of normal black love. In 1961, that began to change with the film adaptation of Lorraine Hansberry's A Raisin in the Sun. He and Karen theorize that stylizing black love with music was a way of making it safe for white audiences - because, as Karen ponders, "Who has sex in a musical?" (OK, we know, we've seen Spring Awakening, too.) Some of the earliest examples he's found were musicals - full, operatic productions, like Cabin in the Sky, Porgy and Bess, and Carmen Jones. ![]() You don't see African-American characters behaving in a way that is just, sort of, normal."īob says the film industry has a bit of a checkered history when it comes to black-on-black love. "What's remarkable about the film is that at any given moment, it's not being remarkable. ![]() The film is "not about other things, it's just about the two of them getting to know each other," Bob says.
